A great turnout for this wonderful annual match versus our good friends up the Dales. Unfortunately, the game was abandoned after 58 minutes due to an neck injury to Foresters player Freddie Marsden, that he received during a scrum.

The good news is that Fred is home after a spell in A&E, that confirmed just bruising round the nerves and hyperflection of the neck. A few quiet days and will be able to play again soon.

Emma and Steven and family would like thank everyone for their concern and kind messages.

The meaning of Chester is “walled town” or “fortress”. Dale seemed to have breached the walls but, as in many previous visits to Hare Lane, a refereeing decision took the win away from the Green Machine and handed it to the home side. This was another entertaining game and well worth the two-hour trip in rain/ sleet and snow. The inclement conditions abated in time for kick-off and the game match was played, on the 4G pitch, in very cold but, thankfully, dry and windless conditions.

The first few minutes saw both sides attempting to kick for position and after …

Otley won this thrilling encounter with one of the last moves of the game. It was a true local derby with plenty of support for both sides making themselves heard throughout the match.

Wharfedale allowed Otley to break into their 22 with the visitor`s first attack and then gave away a penalty for not releasing. Callum Irvine slotted the penalty.

Dale then started to play some good rugby and drove back Otley into their 22 with a well-placed grubber kick from Mann. Otley won their line-out and tried to run the ball out of defence. Gavin Stead was then tackled …

Not a game of open fluent rugby but a match where both sides played hard and contributed to a thrilling match. Dale dominated the first half and deserved to be in the lead by 19 – 5 at half time. Sheffield then came out for the second half and came very close to winning the fixture but were left with two bonus points after a match ending winning try for Wharfedale.

Both Wharfedale and Sheffield 1st and 2nd Team squads lined up before the match to listen to Flowers of the Field, a lament in honour of the …

A certain Flanagan and Allen ditty sprung to mind for our visit, unsurprisingly ‘Underneath the Arches’…

Travelling once again with the 1st team, the Foresters arrived at Lockwood Park to face the Falcons. The short walk, under a fantastic piece of Victorian engineering, saw the Dalesmen arrive at a pitch as flat as could be.

As is usually the case, it took a few minutes to recover from the car journey. Early scrummages indicated that the Huddersfield pack were going to be worthy opponents. As in previous weeks, the Greens opened their account from the first open play with our …

On a dry clear day at Lockwood Park Joe Altham led the Wharfedale team out onto the pitch to face Huddersfield on the occasion of his 200th appearance for the club.

Huddersfield kicked off and within 2 minutes took the lead through a Will Miner penalty making the score 3-0. Within 2 minutes Wharfedale responded with a penalty of their own through Tom Mann making the score 3-3. A long clearance from Wharfedale was collected and returned with great accuracy into the corner of the 5m channel. From the resulting lineout the Huddersfield forwards rumbled over the line for a …
