Saturday 27 April - Wharfedale v Lymm (H) KO 3.00pm ---- Foresters v Sandal 2nd XV at West Leeds RUFC KO 3.00pm ......

This was a day that everyone involved from Wharfedale will want to put behind them. A long and difficult bus journey was followed by a performance that was distinctly below par, even for a side as injury-ravaged as the Green Machine. Newly-promoted Bournville scored ten tries to two on the way to inflicting Wharfedale’s heaviest league defeat in many a year.

The shape of things to come was evident in the first 5 minutes as Bournville showed their intent to attack from all quarters of the field with first a 40m run out of his own half by no 8 …

An enthralling game of rugby was won by the visitors in the last quarter when they scored four tries to come from 26-19 down to make it look like a comfortable bonus point win. Scott Barrow, Sedgley Head coach, reflected on this after the match and said “we were out to win it, but Wharfedale kept coming back at us. Our bench was very strong and allowed us to pull away at the end”.

There was a lot of entertaining rugby played by both sides. Dale opened the scoring after a break by Oliver Cicognini who offloaded for Elliot Stockton …

The trip down to Dore Moor is never an easy one, this week made more interesting by the fact of the unavailability of a suitable coach, traffic issues in Bradford and Sheffield and roadworks on the M1 but the young Foresters squad traveled down in good spirits following on from the last 15mins of the previous weeks curtailed fixture at the avenue.

Late arrivals and slightly earlier kickoff time coupled with the constant issue of unavailable front row players added to the pressure but the young squad seemed to rise to the days challenges.

The Foresters kicked off up the …

Wharfedale opened this encounter against the South Yorkshire side with some outstanding, fluent rugby. The pack was dominant in the scrum and the line-out secure. Good use was made of possession and Dale went in at half time with a fully deserved lead of 12 points.

The only thing that halted Dale’s progress in the opening quarter were a few, rather harsh, not straight decisions at attacking line-outs. This apart, the Greens were producing good entertaining rugby.

An early knock on gave Tigers the put in at a scrum. The Green Machine drove them back and were rewarded with a …

Wharfedale’s first visit to Clifton Park since the 90’s saw the home team win comfortably by five tries to one. The first 25 minutes was a good contest just edged by Wharfedale with a Ben Leacock try.

Rotherham did have some time in the Dale 22 but resolute defence kept them short of the whitewash. After 18 minutes the visitors then worked their way up the pitch and a break by Sam Gaudie was carried forward by Joe Altham who offloaded for Leacock to crash over.

Rotherham were handed a big advantage after Sam Gaudie was yellow carded and Matthew …
