Wharfedale vs Tynedale – Match Preview

The game where every supporter is shouting “C’mon Dale”! So, we welcome our great friends from a little further north, Tynedale. A club similar in so many ways to Wharfedale.

We were in National 1 together for many years and carried on playing preseason matches until we met up again in National 2 North. Tynedale play near the beautiful Northumberland village of Corbridge at Tynedale Park on the banks of the River Tyne. The beautiful setting did lead to problems when the clubhouse and grounds were submerged in water that reached as high as the crossbars after the Tyne burst its banks in December 2015, leaving changing rooms coated in slime and three-foot trout swimming in the car park. Clubs throughout the country, including Wharfedale, rallied round and the club is now back on its feet.

We look forward to seeing our old and respected friends from Tynedale this coming Saturday. Our meetings against the boys from Corbridge date back to March 1993 when 7 penalties from the Greens gave us a hard-fought victory at the Avenue by 21pts to 18. Tynedale may have lost last week but still managed to score 5 tries against Rotherham. The loss followed a run of 6 consecutive victories which has seen them move up to 8th in the League Table.

After last week the boys need to hear the faithful get behind them and push them to give 110%. Your humble scribe was proud of all the boys wearing the Green last week and can’t wait to get behind them again on Saturday.

Unfortunately the planned Foresters vs Tynedale Raiders match is now off.
