Although our various junior age groups have had several inter-club fixtures in recent weeks, this weekend finally sees the senior squad return to rugby for the first time in 14 months when we take a large squad away to Harrogate for a friendly fixture under adapted laws. We had originally hoped to take two senior sides but, with the cricket season in full swing and several players otherwise engaged, this has not proved possible. The match will kick off at 15.00 on Saturday 22 May and will feature 4 periods of 20 minutes to give everybody some game time.
Admission to the ground will be free; the Harrogate RUFC clubhouse will be open from 1pm with food and drinks on sale under current Covid regulations of table service only. The players would love to have plenty of Green Machine support against our big local rivals who will be back in National 2 North come September so please do make the trip across the A59 to the Stratstone Stadium on Rudding Lane where the postcode is HG3 1DQ.
And then on Sunday 23 May, our Colts XV will host Harrogate Colts at Wharfedale with a 13.00 KO. This comes on the back of a couple of tough victories on the road against Morley and West Park Bramhope in the past fortnight which have really tested the squad’s character. If you have missed seeing the next generation of Green talent develop over their last season as juniors before the step-up to senior rugby, come down to the ground on Sunday to cheer them on.
