Two of Wharfedale’s longest-serving members have been honoured at the Yorkshire Rugby Awards Dinner.
Chris Baker received the Club Volunteer Award for his services to the club over many decades as player, Chairman, car park attendant, scoreboard operator and anything else that needed doing.
The top honour, the President’s Award, went to Michael Harrison, player, coach, Director of Rugby and synonym for Wharfedale since his schooldays, when as an Ermysted’s pupil he captained the England Schools side. The photograph shows Past President of Yorkshire and Wharfedale member Gordon Brown receiving the presentation on behalf of ‘Clarty’, who is recovering from a serious farming accident in Pinderfields Hospital. The latest news on that front is that progress is being made, albeit slowly, but he does not expect to be discharged for some weeks. The Yorkshire Rugby Awards Dinner, held at York Racecourse, made a special point of wishing Clarty a speedy recovery.
