Following the latest announcement from the RFU regarding the delayed commencement of the community rugby season, we wanted to provide an update on what this means for Wharfedale Rugby Club.
The RFU has confirmed that the community rugby season will now commence from the week commencing Monday 21 September. This decision applies to competitions at Level 5 and below.
For Wharfedale, this means that there is no change to the First XV’s current fixture schedule, as our first team competes at Level 4.
Our scheduled First XV fixture against Chester Rugby Club on Saturday 5 September will therefore go ahead as planned.
The decision will, however, have an impact on our Second XV fixtures, which operate within the community game structure. We are currently awaiting confirmation of the revised fixture arrangements and will communicate the updated dates to members and supporters as soon as they have been confirmed.
This also has affected the Ladies team and their 1st round Cup Game against Darlington Ladies was to be played 13th September now scheduled for 4th October at home.
The first league game away at York Ladies was scheduled for 20th September now will be rearranged for later on in the season and once we have that information we will again keep you updated.
A separate statement will be released for the mini and Jnr section to say how they will be effected once all the relevant information has been received by the club.
We will continue to work closely with the RFU and the relevant competition organisers to ensure that the revised schedule is communicated as quickly and clearly as possible.
