Saturday 6 April - Billingham v Wharfedale (A) KO 2.15pm ------- Billingham 2nd XV v Foresters (A) KO 2.15pm ------

Wharfedale Rams 61 Old Brodleians Beavers 0

After a lengthy lay off, the Rams took the field against their old rivals the Beavers in decent winter conditions.  Taking the option of playing down the slope first, the Dalesmen made hard work of it for the first 15 minutes, taking their time converting early pressure into points.

The deadlock was broken by scrum half Hayton, who opened the scoring.  Minutes later, Hayton crossed the line again and this time Rhodes converted, as he was to do after every score which followed.  Fast, open play saw Booth scoring next and then Hayton completed his hat trick.  It was, therefore, 26-0 at the break.

Wholesale changes to personnel at half time enabled the Greens to keep up the pressure and indeed intensify it.  First Smith capitalised on this, then Hayton scored his fourth.  Adam Birkby took his chance to score a debut try and then Joe Gill tore down the wing to score a well-deserved try.  Rhodes now confirmed how exceptional he is from the tee.

It may read like the Brodleians did not turn up today.  However, that is far from the truth.  Their commitment to playing was very evident as, when offered the opportunity to call an early closure  to the match, they opted to carry on to full time.  Captain Jack Kitching, a real thorn in the side of the Brods throughout, offered these words “It was a top effort today fellas.  Keep it up for the rest of the season.  Fingers crossed that we have some Aire-Wharfe action in the spring.  We should have a good crack at that one this season!”
