After rumours of stranded buses and sleeping-in students, Huddersfield eventually arrived and took to the pitch looking nothing like the few old heads who like social rugby which we had been promised.
The Dalesmen, skippered by JD, played up the slope of the floodlit first team pitch and soon opened the scoring with Tom Fitsell crashing over from close range. Marcus Farnsworth converted.
Joel Gill was the next to score an unconverted try. Huddersfield’s indiscipline saw Farnsworth taking the points with the boot. Tom Oakes scored just before half time with Farnsworth adding the extras. It was, therefore, 22-0 at the break.
Half-time saw wholesale changes, though this didn’t affect the quality of performance. We were still happy to run hard with ball in hand. Bullock was the first to score after the interval with Farnsworth again converting. Dale pressure continued and saw James Ardron score an unconverted try. The next two tries saw Bullock increase his tally to three and the industrious Sam Mason deservedly registered the other one, just one of these being converted by Farnsworth.
This was a sound performance against a side who did not give up and just enjoyed participating in this great game.
