Following on from earlier success this year where Bob Kendall was named ‘best-dressed crier’ at a national competition held at Halifax, Wharfedale RUFC have appointed Bob as their ‘Club Crier’ in what is believed to be rugby union’s first recognised, Town Crier.
Bob who is Grassington’s Town Crier and helps out at the Avenue on 1st team match days, will officially proclaim Wharfedale’s 100th anniversary and the start of the new season, at the club’s home league game on 9 September against Rotherham, 2pm kick off.

Following a centenary dinner held back in June, a series of further events are planned across the year, with a celebration of Mini & Junior rugby to be held across the weekend of 30th September/1st October. On the Saturday, the 1st XV, 2nd XV and the Colts will play against teams from Sheffield, along with the U16 girls who will play West Park Leeds, this will be followed by musical entertainment.
On the Sunday an U15’s tournament will take place including teams from Wales, with entertainment to include BBQ, raffle, silent auction, and ducking stool.
