Buoyed by their table topping win against Rotherham Titans last weekend, riding high at the top of league and looking favourites for the title, sees Hull set for another Yorkshire derby as they visit the Avenue for the first time in a league fixture, and what will be only the third league fixture between our two clubs, since Hull’s promotion from the Northern Premiership in season 2018-19. Back on home ground (and unfamiliar territory for our visitors), Wharfedale will be seeking to avenge the Stourbridge result, upset the form book and influence who might end on top of the pile, come May!
Hull RUFC were formed in 1992 as a result of a merger between Old Hymerians RUFC and Hull & East Riding RUFC, these two former clubs provided regular fixtures against Upper Wharfedale RUFC in previous years, which some of our elder statesmen may, or may not recall? Familiar names connected with Hull include their first ever coach, who was Paul Huntsman, ex PE master at Erymsted’s, and former Wharfedale old boy, Latu Makaafi, who returns to this parish on Saturday.
Our matchday sponsorship comes from our Mini and Junior section, to whom we say a big thank to our dedicated M & J coaches, for the time and energy they devote in nurturing the life blood and future generation of Wharfedale RUFC players, and to the parents and guardians for your ongoing support.
Kick off 3pm, then screening of England v Ireland, afterwards in the Clubhouse.
Team selection to follow.
