The RFU have recently published proposals to reduce the number of league matches in a season from 30 to a maximum of 26 by cutting the maximum number of teams in a league to 14, and to reduce travel commitments by splitting National League 2 into either 3 leagues of 14 teams (North/Central/South) or 4 leagues of 14 teams (North/Midlands/London and South East/South and Southwest) with commensurate dilution of the standard at National 2. It is the considered view of the management of Wharfedale RUFC that these changes, if implemented, will materially damage both the commercial interests of the club and the quality of the rugby experience offered to our players and spectators. Further brief analysis of the proposals and the club management’s views can be found by clicking
All members and supporters are encouraged to read the briefing document and to respond to the RFU survey on the proposals which is to be found here.
NB THE DEADLINE FOR COMPLETING THE SURVEY IS WEDNESDAY 19 FEBRUARY.
