It may seem churlish and a little bit picky to find fault when your team has scored nearly a half century of points in a game, but the 49-12 victory over the men from the steel city of Scunthorpe last Saturday, left the Wharfedale faithful feeling slightly flat that the Greens didn’t push on late in the game. Having said that, full credit to Scunthorpe who stuck to an impossible task manfully and deservedly earned the plaudits for sticking to it late on.
The five points gained sees Dale remain in 12th place in the table with 39 points. Our hosts this coming weekend, Preston Grasshoppers, are having a tough season and find themselves lying is 15th spot with 27 points. They did have an improvement last Saturday, giving high flying Sheffield Tigers a scare before eventually going down 11-10 at Dore Moor.
Previous meetings between our two clubs show that from the 13 league fixtures played, Wharfedale have 9 wins to Prestons 4. At Lightfoot Green it’s played 6 with 3 wins apiece, but the Greens successes have come in the last three encounters across the A59.
The Preston Grasshoppers ground is on Lightfoot Green Lane, Fulwood, PR4 0AP. Selection will follow later this week and kick off is at 2.30pm.
