Saturday 6 April - Billingham v Wharfedale (A) KO 2.15pm ------- Billingham 2nd XV v Foresters (A) KO 2.15pm ------

Yorkshire Men took on Cheshire Men last Saturday at Doncaster RFU and there were 4 of Wharfedale’s finest wearing the white rose. Rob Baldwin and Oscar Canny started the match and both were influential in establishing a strong lead. Off the bench, in the second half, Sam Gaudie and Madison Hunting, kept the pressure on and Yorkshire ran out comfortable winners. It was also good to see Dan Scarborough (ex-Wharfedale and England) coaching Yorkshire.

THE INDEFATIGABLE FORESTERS!

After what must have been one of the most disjointed seasons any team could possibly be faced with, the Foresters arrived at

Malton and Norton for the final of the League Cup and the very last game of the season. No side ever deserved it more and fitting that they should have reached this final to show they have not been put off course, by what must have been one of the strangest seasons on record. Along with many others I admire their fortitude , attitude and acceptance of matters beyond their control and whilst this praise …

This was not an attacking festival of rugby that a big crowd had hoped for. It did not match the superb spectacle of Dale’s 57 – 18 win way back at the start of the season at the Avenue. Head coach, Simon Vebickas, said after the game in September “Preston are no mugs and they will get better as the season progresses”.

Dale took to the field with 9 changes to the starting line-up from September but full of the youngsters who had played so brilliantly in the past few weeks. Sadly, this was not to be their finest hour. …

Refreshing  once again to be reporting on a match for this excellent squad, who have had such an exasperating season which could have driven many to despair . Not the Foresters, they are made of sterner stuff than that. Don`t hold your breath but after watching the 1st XV`s sparkling display against Chester and the introduction of the  Greens next  generation, the Club could be entering a very exciting era. Introducing several very promising younger players has provided that vital injection of pace and athleticism which is obviously proving successful with results obtained. Fingers crossed !!
