Saturday 20 April - Foresters v Sheffield 2nd XV (H) KO 2.00pm ----   Wednesday 24 April - Wharfedale 3rd XV v Ilkley 2nd XV (A) KO 6.30pm -------

With Ilkley being at the top of the league, this local derby game was given added incentive for both teams to put up a strong performance. The early exchanges indicated exactly that, with both sides probing for an opening.  Wharfedale had the majority of the possession and twice crossed the line, but were unable to ground the ball.  The Greens eventually opened the scoring with a penalty goal after 25 minutes.  The two well-matched sides kept up the intensity and equalled each other out in both attack and defence.  In the last minute of the half Ilkley deservedly levelled the …

A clinical and efficient Hull team secured a bonus point after 30 minutes and went on to lead 5 -33 at half time. Head Coach, Gary Pearce, said after the game that “we were good in the first half and used the conditions really well and played in the right areas of the pitch. We played some powerful rugby. We gave Wharfedale full respect and they stuck to their task really well and made things very difficult in the second half”

Hull opened the scoring after 4 minutes with Latu Makaafi powering over after a 5-metre line out. Dale struck …

Better late than never! Last weeks match report and apologies.

A real range of ages represented the Greens at Development XV level against Moortown, a heavier and older side in the main. There were no cards indicating that the match was played in an admirable spirit, typical of our experience in most matches at this level.
After an early penalty by Moortown, tries were scored by veteran Sam Smith (2) and by Morgan Davies, JD converting two of them.  Billy McGuinn was man of the match.
This was another spirited encounter which the home side deserved to win due to …

On a breezy day at Stourton Parks artificial pitch, Stourbridge fielding four Wasps dual registered players, kicked off with the wind.

After almost constant possession Wharfedale won a scrum free kick which did not find touch and was run back by Stourbridge using speed and precision passing for Thomas Bacon to score down the left flank and under the posts, conversion by Frederick Morgan making score 7-0. From the kick off Wharfedale won a scrum penalty which Tom Davidson converted

From the kick off Wharfedale handled into touch and from the resulting lineout Stourbridge recycled the ball to Immanuel Feyi-Waboso …

A thoroughly enjoyable game at The Avenue in bright and breezy conditions saw the visitors, Luctonians, take the spoils 16 – 10. Wharfedale, despite numerous injuries, both prior to and in the game, were slightly unfortunate not to take something from the match but Luctonians, on the balance of 80 minutes, probably deserved to take the spoils.

The Greens, playing uphill and into a stiff breeze took an early lead when evergreen Stevie Graham crossed wide out to give Wharfedale a 5 – 0 lead. The resulting kick off resulted in a penalty for the visitors and Jones cut the …

Hull Ionians conquer the elements to defeat Wharfedale

Late withdrawals, snow and a heavy pitch made for an interesting afternoon.

Wharfedale started well and from an early scrum penalty in the 7th minute went into the lead of 0-3 when Tom Davidson converted the kick. Continued pressure from Wharfedale saw another penalty awarded in the 15th minute from a lineout but the kick fell short. Hull Ionians committed multiple penalties during this period but Wharfedale were unable to convert indiscipline into points.

In the 25th minute Ionians were awarded a lineout on Wharfedale 10m line and from …
