Wharfedale travelled to Huddersfield with only 14 men, but everyone played out of their skins, and but for a drop goal from Huddersfield 5 minutes from full time, Wharfedale would have had the victory.
Wharfedale took the game to Huddersfield right from the start and playing uphill took the lead with a converted try after 15 minutes hard work. Huddersfield levelled the score and took the lead just before half time with 2 tries and 1 conversion. Half time 12-7.
Wharfedale went straight on the attack now playing downhill for the second half, keeping Huddersfield penned in their own half for long periods. Wharfedale kicked 2 penalties to take a slender lead. 12-13. Huddersfield regained the lead with an unconverted try. 17-13. With 10 minutes left, Wharfedale re took the lead with a converted try. 17-20. But with 5 minutes left Huddersfield got a cheeky drop goal to level the score.
Wharfedale’s 14 were satisfied with the draw, but left thinking what if, with a full side.
