The Yorkshire Cup Final was played at the West Park Leeds ground at Bramhope.
Wharfedale opened playing confident rugby and the whole side was involved in the first try which ended with Dan Solomi breaking from 15 metres to score. Jamie Guy converted. James Doherty, Dale’s captain and play maker, was taken off shortly after with concussion caused by Sam Brady. The offence was treated lightly and Brady escaped with a yellow card. Harrogate made light of playing with 14 men and before Dale could regroup attacked and were rewarded. Brady was applauded back on to the pitch by some of the Harrogate support!
Dale had chances to extend the lead but Guy was not on kicking form and missed with two moderately easy attempts and also saw a drop goal attempt drift past the upright.
Two more penalties from Irvine took Harrogate in at the interval with a one point lead.
Yellow cards were exchanged in the second half first to Dale’s Josh Burridge and then a Harrogate player.
Good play from the Harrogate backs saw the lead stretched with an excellent try from Luke Edwards. Irvine was again successful from the tee to take the lead to 16-7.
Josh Burridge brought Dale back into the game with a try from a 5 metre line out. Harrogate stepped off and Burridge made them pay for the tactic by bursting through to score, 16-12.
Harrogate had more chances to score but desperate defence kept them out.
