The Devs kicked off the season with a convincing win against Old Rishworthians. With a difficult week for numbers the cancellation of The Rams game allowed for a full squad and thanks must also go to Paul Marklew who pulled on a Rish shirt to ensure they had a front row and a competitive scrum.
Wharfedale started well and big second row Dan Benson bulldozed his way to an early brace before pulling up with a ‘leg injury’ to avoid the jug.
The unusual centre partnership of Tom Willets and Olly Snowden were making good ground and excellent support led to further first half tries for Snowden and a pushover from a scrum allowed Matt Wareing to score.
The second half started in much the same fashion with Wharfedale scoring at regular intervals. Snowden completed a hat trick and this was added to by brothers Tom and Joe Jackson, Max Bell, and Adam Stockdale who finished off a fine sweeping move. A very scrappy 20 minutes followed which allowed Rish to gather a couple of second half tries which their continued effort deserved.
This was not a vintage performance but it was a good result none the less. The players playing out of position stood up to the task and a big thank you to those that did play.
