The Devs continued their winning start to the league campaign with a comprehensive 12 try victory at the Avenue against Bradford and Bingley.
The Bees turned up 2 men short and credit must go to Wharfedale men Ben Hammond, Andrew Bode and particularly Rorie Roberts who pulled on a Bees shirt for the full 80.
Wharfedale started brightly and after some good carries up front were finally rewarded with a try from Joe Jackson. This was quickly followed by 2 tries, one each for Otto Mallileu-Black, making his 3rd team debut, and Sam Lockwood who continued his good early season form. Despite conceding a soft try and then being camped on there own line for a while, the Devs fought back with Lockwood grabbing his second of the half and captain Sam Mason following up some good handling from Wharfedale’s own 22 to score.
Wharfedale started the second half flying. Successive tries arriving for Mallileu-Black, Jackson, Harris Catley and David Wade with some electric breaks and super support play. Bees however fought back terrifically and were rewarded with 2 well deserved tries of there own in the second period.
But it was the Devs that would finish the game in style. Lockwood grabbed his hat-trick. James Otulakowski got the try his excellent performance merited and Mason grabbed his second to wrap things up.
Catley added 7 conversions in a game that showed what the Devs can really do.
Next week sees a change to the scheduling with Bradford Salem making the journey up to the avenue for a Friday night game under lights. Plenty of support would be appreciated.
