The Rams travelled to York with 12 men to find they were playing a 1st team. Rowntrees sportingly loaned two players and the game was played at 14 a side.
A good hard game followed as the Rams set about their task in a typical workman-like fashion. Both sides were evenly matched and York took the lead after 20 minutes when a quickly taken line out caught Wharfedale unawares. York scored again after a missed pass let them in just before halftime
The second half continued in the same vein with both sides trying to get the upper hand. Wharfedale got their score next with Adam Stockdale making a break through the York line to put Sam Lockwood in under the posts. Chris Sheryn converted. Now Wharfedale had the bit between their teeth and started to force the game for another score, but to no avail as York got 2 late tries to seal the game. It had been a good sporting encounter.
