Another week, another hard fought local derby match between two sides keen to assert their authority on the game. Wharfedale got off to a flying start from the kick-off with a mix up in the Keighley defence. Tom Allsopp crashed over to open the scoring.
Wharfedale were keen to continue with the pressure and Jonathan Davies went over for the second try after 10 minutes. Keighley regrouped and began to get into the game making Wharfedale defend for a period.
The first half ended with both sides looking for the upper hand.
The second half began with both sides trying to play flowing rugby in the ever diminishing weather conditions. Both sides were equally matched until 15 minutes from the end when James Huck forced his way over for Wharfedale’s third try. Wharfedale now pressed on for the fourth try and a bonus point win which came with 5 minutes remaining from Mick Greenwood. Jonathan Davies added 3 conversions.
It was a good sporting derby encounter.
