Wharfedale made the short trip down the dale to close neighbours Ilkley for a tough league game as Ilkley were second in the league whilst Wharfedale were mid-table. Both sides had a good mix of experience and youth.
Wharfedale went on the attack right from the start and were intent on dominating the scrum and forward positions. Good solid play from both sides kept the game at stalemate for 20 minutes, then Wharfedale opened their account with a break away try, quickly followed by their second, a catch and drive from a close range line out. Just before half- time, a driven scrum resulted in a third touchdown.
Both sides brought on fresh legs at half- time, but Wharfedale continued to dominate. Their fourth try resulting from a rolling maul 10 minutes after the restart. Then a grey patch in the game saw numerous scrums sapping both sides before Ilkley finally used their back line to get a consolation try. Wharfedale hit back to steal the game with a final try.
A good hard fought game played with good sportsmanship on both sides.
