Club News

As last year due to the need to comply with the various Covid restrictions we will be holding a number of Workforce days at the club over the next few weeks.

We plan to hold the first one on Saturday 19 June starting at 9.00a.m. and lasting for 2 to 3 hours. We would like a small number of helpers to carry out some redecoration of walls within the changing room area.

The balance of the work is external and includes:

Sanding down of the four subs benches (it would be of great help if you have a battery powered …

A worthy cause if anyone would like to sponsor Ian who’s raising money for Doddie Weir and MND.

In a couple of weeks Ian Peel and a group of ex players are helping to raise money for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation by trekking 30 miles from Doddies farm in the Scottish Borders to BT Murrayfield to deliver the match ball the day before Lions take on Japan.

Your support would be very much appreciated and click on the link below to donate on Ian’s JustGiving Page.

Gina Hodgson, hard at work in her new role in charge of the clubhouse bar having taken over from Lisa Roddis. Many thanks Lisa and best of luck with your new ventures plus enjoying some family time.

Gina is pictured here taking a break from ‘table service’ at the recent ‘warm up’ game v Harrogate, to help with the latest 200 Club Draw.

It was certainly warm, that afternoon and the Wharfedale faithful enjoyed good rugby, good beer all whilst sitting at outdoor tables – ‘al fresco’ comes to the Dales, whatever next! ”Its like being at Montpellier v Biarritz” …

Hopefully all parents and guardians of our M&J players will have received an e-mail from me on Saturday 5 June concerning helping the club with an important audit of the details of themselves and their children held within GMS. The club would very much appreciate it if all parents/guardians would respond to the request as soon as possible.

NB no action is required in respect of those players who were in the U18 age group in the 2020-21 season.

If any parent/guardian has not received the e-mail would they please contact me by e-mail at

Age …

Our Colts have had a very much shortened season, which has now ended – HOWEVER – it is great to share that after only a few weeks of training they took on and beat Morley, West Park Leeds and Harrogate both home and away!

Congratulations lads, and also to U18 Coaches Andy Peel and Paul Darwin, U17 Warren Beecroft and Jack McGuinn, and last but not least, Hedley Verity in his role as Youth Rugby Development Officer who is ever present at training.

The picture is from the last game at Harrogate.

Although our various junior age groups have had several inter-club fixtures in recent weeks, this weekend finally sees the senior squad return to rugby for the first time in 14 months when we take a large squad away to Harrogate for a friendly fixture under adapted laws. We had originally hoped to take two senior sides but, with the cricket season in full swing and several players otherwise engaged, this has not proved possible. The match will kick off at 15.00 on Saturday 22 May and will feature 4 periods of 20 minutes to give everybody some game time.
