After months of fundraising, our U16’s headed to North Wales on Friday for their rugby tour.

Saturday they faced Caernarfon where we caught up with the legendary ex Wharfedale player, Chris Malherbe and son Jona, who now plays for the club. The team had a great game and came away with a 14-29 win.

Following a presentation in the clubhouse the lads stayed to watch the Six Nations games (Wales v Italy and England v France) then headed into town for a curry and finally back to their digs for the evening.

After some really tough matches, on Saturday Wharfedale travel to Billingham, promoted for the first time into the division last season. Although they found the transition a bit of a struggle, they did manage to beat Wharfedale there last season, thanks to an injury to our captain during the warm-up, and the raucous support of the local ladies, who were making a day of it. And no doubt an evening.

Wharfedale 24-28 Leeds Tykes

Leeds scored two tries late in each half to rob Wharfedale of victory. Dale opened the match with some blistering rugby. They took the kick-off and then followed up the clearance kick and forced a mistake on half-way. They won the scrum and then Bradley Viner broke through the defence and offloaded to Harry Bullough who got the first try. Robbie Davidson converted to give Dale a 7-0 lead after 2 minutes.
