Saturday 23 March - Wharfedale v Preston Grasshoppers (H) KO 2.00pm ...... Foresters v Scunthorpe 2nd XV (A) KO 3.00pm ------

Doncaster Phoenix 2nd XV 3-23 Foresters

The Foresters squad made the journey to the Castle Park complex on the outskirts of Doncaster on the back of the defeat to Sheffield Tigers to right some wrongs.

A cagey start to the match resulted in defences being on top with scoring opportunities few and far between. The deadlock was broken on the half hour mark when fly half Rory MacNab converted a penalty from in front of the posts. This was cancelled out almost immediately by his opposite number.

Back on the attack the Foresters forced another penalty attempt which Rory converted. This wasn’t to be the last action of the half. With time running out Doncaster had a line out on their own 22 yard line. The throw didn’t go the hand and open side Joe Fawcett pounced on the loose ball. It seemed he had knocked on but the referee missed this and a try was scored to the left hand side of the posts which was duly added to by Rory Macnab.

Half time 13-3.

A similar second half ensued with the defensive efforts of both sides on top. Scoring chances were few and far between with the Foresters striving to put the result out of reach of the home side.

A well worked 10 yard driven line out move resulted in a try by second row Elliot Stockton, which was again converted by Rory Macnab.

The final score was another penalty by MacNab to claim a 100% record from the tee, with the final score being 23-3 to the Foresters.

Some of the wrongs of the previous week were righted with more cohesion shown by the whole squad, which made the drive back to the Dales a better proposition.

All in all it had been a good day at the office and with the old foes of Harrogate beating Sheffield Tigers at Rudding Park this has aided the Foresters position at the top of the Yorkshire league.
