Wharfedale Rams 55 – 10 Ripon 3rd XV

January 31st, 2016
North Yorkshire Cup Despite the final score line this was a hard fought victory played out by two teams determined to progress to the semi-final stage. With a strong wind blowing straight down the pitch, Ripon elected to play with the wind in the 1st half and set about penning Wharfedale in their 22 for most of the opening 20 minutes. Eventually Wharfedale got into a rythmn which saw them move into the Ripon half with some determined forward play and the probing backs running good lines. This brought the first scoring opportunity. A penalty kick from Ripon's 22 was missed due to the strong prevailing wind. Wharfedale now began to take control and the opening try came soon after followed by three further scores before half time. Both sides brought on some fresh legs for the second half but Wharfedale struck again straight from the restart. Ripon then replied with a strong running breakaway try. Wharfedale regrouped and scored steadily throughout the second half with Ripon making them work for each score. Ripon collected their second try with 10 minutes to play. It had been another good sporting game played out by 2 good local teams. Wharfedale scorers : - Tries - Chris Greenwood (2), Matt Waring 2, A Rhodes, T Carlisle,J Jackson, D Tweed, , M McLachlan. Conversions - from J Davies (5).
