Wharfedale 4th XV 28 – 31 Old Rishworthian 2nd XV

April 13th, 2015

This was Wharfedale’s last league home game of the season against top of the table Old Rishworthians . A typical game of the proverbial two halves between two evenly matched sides. The strong wind blowing straight down the pitch influenced the game. Rishworthians had its use in the first half and scored 4 tries and 2 conversions, with Wharfedale’s only score of 1 try.

The half time score of 24-5 left Wharfedale with all the work to do in the second half. Wharfedale used the wind just as Rishworthians had and began to chip away at the deficit, scoring at regular intervals the pressure was building on the Rishworthians defence. With 7 minutes to go Wharfedale took the lead 28-24. This set up a frantic finale as both sides were now trying to win the game, but with the last play of the game Rishworthians sneaked the win with a converted try.

Wharfedale scorers – tries James Ardron, Ed Walker, Chris Sheryn, Duncan Clayton-Stead with Jonathan Davies adding 2 penalties and 1 conversion
